Working Title:The Return
Return Return Return
7/4/11:
Here is the basic underpainting, with a very new twist!
I used sand in several areas to give the building some texture.
It will either look really cool, or be a horrible disaster.
(I hope it's not a disaster cuz this was an expensive canvas!)
7/5/11:
The sand experiment seems to have worked out ok.
I guess I won't know if I'm happy with it or not until it's finished.
But so far it does not appear to be a horrible disaster.
7/18/11:
Finished! Photographed outside so the colors are more accurate.
Not sure if I'll do the sand again... I imagine I will.
What do you think?

Been working on this one for a while, just didn't bother posting it.
But, here it is so far. This will be vaguely similar to the original Road to Galilee.
6/5/11:
Sorry for the lack of photos on this one. Here is the finished piece.
I've been rushing a number of pieces out for the Show at the end of July, so there are some gaps here (like about 6 paintings). I'll try to do better in the future (no promises)
Oh crap, I already did another piece since the show... oh well, see it in the Gallery!

12/16/09:

Working Title:Black Water
9/10/09:
Underpainted with Red Acrylic.
Sky and clouds done in oils.
9/15/09
Foreground added. I notice that like the First Angel painting, this color spectrum doesn't seem to photograph too well
- sorry 'bout that.
9/22/09
Finished piece. I took it outside to photograph, so the colors are more accurate on this pic.
Added figure and some foreground details. I actually like this one!

Size:30"x24"

This will most likely be the first in a series of perhaps 5 paintings.
7/21/09
Background painted in oils.
7/21/09
Foreground started. Can you tell which Michael? (duh)
This photo was shot at night so the colors might be a little jacked up.
7/28/09
First Painting of the Series is complete.
This style of art is really getting back to my roots.
For me this is "old school".

Size:36"x24"
Medium:Oil on Canvas
Working Title:Flamenco Red
4/17/09:
Every once in a while I wonder what will happen if I
paint something "traditional".
Will my hair catch on fire? Will my head explode?
Will I lose all my "talent"?
How many artists do you suppose have painted the
Flamenco Dancer? - Millions!?
No promises that this painting will ever actually
get done, but, the underpainting is complete using red
acrylics and black gesso.
6/22/09:
Background painted and Dancer begun.
6/23/09:
As wet as this whole canvas is, I managed to not
ruin it by sticking my hand in it more than
about 3 dozen times!
DONE!!

Size:16"x20"
Medium:Oil on Canvas
Working Title:First Angel
3/12/09:
Underpainting done using red acrylics. Background done in Oils.

Working Title:Leap of Faith
>
4/1/09:
Underpainting done using red, yellow & blue acrylics.
Sky done in Oils.
Tall and skinny to fit a specific location.
4/4/09:
Starting on buildings - MORE BRICKS!!
This one would move pretty quickly if not for BRICKS!
4/19/09:
Hola again, took some time off for the typical "crisis of commitment" that all artists deal with.
Got most of the background done - not as grueling as I had anticipated.
4/29/09:
Okay, I admit I may have skipped a few photos on this one.
Remember what I said last time about not being too grueling? - I LIED!!!
This was a hard one, but it is DONE!!

Size:18"x36"
Medium:Oil on Canvas
Working Title:Waiting for the Sun
4/1/09:
Underpainting done using red acrylics.
First layer, background and foreground, done in Oils.
Can you guess what's going in the cutouts?
4/10/09:
Stonehenge and finishing details added. DONE!!
The more I stare at this one, the more satisfied I am with the way it turned out.

Size:40"x30"
Medium:Oil on Canvas
Working Title:Fisherman's Wife
Underpainting done using black gesso with red and yellow acrylics.
Wish me luck with this one! It is large in size and in detail.
Much different than previous projects - hope it turns out - the canvas was expensive!!
First day of Oils. Sick of painting window frames
I know it doesn't look like much, but it's a big wall!
A little more work done on the background. First it was window frames - now it's bricks!
Today I am a bricklayer, as the last building in the background is all brick! - I feel so lucky : )
Okay, NO MORE BRICKS!!
Things will start moving pretty quickly now that most of the background is complete. I'll need some drying time before I put in the final background details but I can continue with other elements.
NOW we're finally making some progress!
Buildings finished, figure and boat done - water next.
What was it Bob Ross used to say?
"We don't make mistakes, we just have happy accidents"?
Sorry Bob, you never saw this face!
(Left) That's no "happy accident", it's a hideous nightmare!
(Middle) Ouch! That's gotta hurt!
(Right) Ah, my sweet, sorrowful madonna!
Water blended into background.
We're getting close on this one.
A few more details in the background and it will be complete.
A BIG project completed!
Final details added to background.
This one will also show at The Peanut Gallery in April.

Size:36"x24"
Medium:Oil on Canvas
Working Title:Path to Life
Underpainting done using red and yellow acrylics.
Background done in Oils. Though this is similar to Asylum,
there will be more play between light and dark.
Yesterday was a marathon painting day!
No, you didn't miss anything - this was all done in one day.
Once it dries I'll add a few small details and it will be complete.
Figure and Bird added, and it is done!
Renamed "Solitude"
This will show at The Peanut Gallery in April.

Size:22"x28"
Medium:Oil on Canvas
Working Title:The Mill
Underpainting done using red and yellow acrylics. Background painted. More waiting! I really didn't like the way the background came out, so I did it over again.
I like this much better.
Sea and basic Foreground added... taking FOREVER to dry!! Detail added to the Mill and the foreground... almost done! Finals details of figure, tweetie and foreground added. Another one DONE!!

Size:36"x24"
Medium:Oil on Canvas
Working Title:Asylum
Underpainting done using red, yellow and blue acrylics. Background of sky and sea painted. Now to hurry up and wait! First layer of oils done on Tower. More waiting... First layer of white glaze over Tower to soften details. Figure outlined. First layer of Oils on foreground and wall... tick... tock... Second layer of white glaze over Tower to further soften details. Heavy white Oils knifed onto upper Tower to highlight. First layer of detail on figure. Black glaze is next. First layer of black glaze done on shadows and over figure. More detail added to Tower and walls. Figure detailed with more color,
I wasn't crazy about the way the glaze tinted the figure.
Repainted the glaze over the figure, I thinks it looks cleaner this time,
and it is DONE! This one is off to show at Gallery Cuvee.

Size:24"x30"
Medium:Oil on Canvas
Working Title:Caen of Nod
