Commission Details:

Commissioning a piece of artwork from an artist can be a thrilling but intimidating experience. Outlined below are the specifics for commissioning work from DJ Fedeli so both current and future collectors will have an idea what to expect.

1. Contact the Artist.
This one is easy: Email him.

2. Describe as specifically as possible the art you want to have created.
These are the types of questions you will be asked:
Do you want a canvas painting or painting on hardboard (masonite)?
If on gallery-wrapped canvas (staples are on the back for frame-free display), how deep/thick do you want your edges: 3/4" or 1.5"?
What size painting do you want?
What subject do you want in your painting?
What colors do you want in your painting? (If you want your painting to specifically match a color in your decor, you will need to provide mailed swatches, as the colors on computer monitors vary.)
Are you looking to stay in a certain price range/budget?

3. What is your deadline for the completed project?
The specific details and timing of the commission request will determine the length of time required to complete your painting. A 20" x 24" oil painting may take several weeks. Oil paintings dry very slowly, and adequate time must be allowed for drying before packaging for shipment to avoid damage.

4. Pricing.
Generally speaking, size determines price. Some subjects contain considerable detail which may affect price, so be sure to include these requirements in your description of the work you want to commission.

5. Contract.
Once you agree to the terms and details of your commission, you will receive a contract via email outlining all those details for your approval. Once you accept this contract...

6. Deposit.
A 50% deposit is required on all commissions before work begins. Once you have approved the contract, you will be booked into the commission schedule. You will receive an invoice by e-mail for 50% of the cost of the commission via PayPal. You will also receive an email stating when work on your commission will begin. You have up to, but not including the date booked to begin your commission to cancel and receive a full refund of your deposit. Once work has started on your commission, the deposit is non-refundable.

7. Payment.
PayPal is the preferred method of payment.
PayPal enables you to pay by credit card, debit card, or bank account. It is a secure site that allows you to pay without vendors having access to your financial information. You are NOT required to have a PayPal account to make a payment. You will receive both your deposit invoice and your final invoice through PayPal.
After you pay your final invoice, your commission will be shipped, fully insured for the purchase price.* Final payment is due within thirty (30) days of notice that your commission is complete.
You can also pay by Certified Check or Personal Check, but your commission will not be scheduled until funds have cleared the bank - no exceptions.

8. Refunds.
There are no returns on commissioned paintings. As a future collector, you are very involved in the commissioning process. Before sending your invoice and/or shipping your painting, you will receive an e-mail directing you to an online image of your commission for your final approval. In this way, you can be confident that you know what you will be paying for.

Images of your commission will be posted throughout the process at http://www.djfedeli.com/Easel.html.

9. Miscellaneous
While the final oil painting will be 100% yours, the copyright to the image always remains with the artist, as well as the digital rights and the rights to reproduction in any form. Basically, what this means to you is that the piece will be shown on this web site, and perhaps some others, and DJ Fedeli retains the rights to reproduction of the work in any form. (Example: If we decide to print a brochure of DJ Fedeli's work, it could show up there.)
If you desire to have the piece reproduced, you would need to contact the artist for written permission.
Any commercial use of the image would be solely at the artist's discretion.

* Sketches and Studies done in oil may be made available for purchase separately. These are priced based upon quantity and size.

We hope this outline provides some insight into the commissioning process. And if you have questions, please ask. The artist is always available to answer your questions.
